Toronto space has so far to attract Hollywood major

TORONTO -- Filmport, Toronto's mega-studio and a possible white knight for its isolated film-production sector, opened its doors Wednesday with just one problem -- no studio tenant.

Phase 1 of the $60 million studio complex, which comprises seven-spot stages covering 260,000 square feet of blank, is so far without a Hollywood major on board as the studio-SAG contract dialogue in Los Angeles drag on.

Filmport Studios president Ken Ferguson predicts the complex will fill up one time the major league reach a new consider with the actors guild.

"In these challenging times for the Toronto film manufacture, we required a boost. We hope Filmport fanny play a role in putting Toronto where it belongs, back on top," he aforementioned at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor David Miller and Canadian theater director David Cronenberg.

Filmport, which includes a pillar-free 46,500-square-foot stage for effects-heavy studio pictures, already has chartered out power space to George A. Romero's "Diary of the Dead 2," which is shooting on location in Toronto.

Additionally, Universal is eyeing Filmport for its "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" externalize, which is based on a amusing by local writer Bryan Lee O'Malley and congeal in Toronto. But with the Canadian dollar at near-parity with the American greenback, and New York offering a 35% tax credit, Universal producers besides are considering the Big Apple as a stand in for Toronto.

Paul Bronfman, chairman of Comweb, which has a near-half stake in Filmport, said that the mega-studio and Toronto will have to work operose to secure big-budget studio apartment shoots after a SAG deal is inked.

Brachytherapy Vs. Cryoablation In The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer

UroToday.com - Both cryoablation and brachytherapy are well studied alternatives to radical prostatectomy. The techniques ar similar in the coating of the needles to deliver the treatment, planning software and algorithms to achieve the best coverage, are delivered as outpatient treatment, and efficacy. The techniques disagree in that cryoablation throne be utilised for irradiation failures and can be repeated.

There is a significant body of literature on brachytherapy and the controversies ar centered around the isotope used and the dosimetry. While in that respect may be some theoretic advantages to Pd103 in high risk tumors, there is no significant clinical data exhibit an advantage over I125. Generally Pd103 is victimised in combination with external beam and I125 in monotherapy. Treatment planning bathroom be performed prior to implant (Preplan) or during the imbed (intraoperative planning). The advantage of the preplan is that the number of seeds ordered is exact, but it requires a separate visit for the planimetry and is less flexible if changes need to be made during the implant. Intraoperative planning may resultant role in order more seeds than mandatory, but results show a significant betterment in both D90 and V100 compared to preplanning.

Cryoablation has had a controversial history which has improved with the third base generation bringing devices. The needles are smaller and are able to deliver a more than precise ice ball than the prior technologies. The addition of thermocouples for monitoring temperature and the urethral cooling system device have dramatically reduced some of the worst complications antecedently reported with cryoablation including incontinence, tissue paper sloughing, and fistulae. The outcome database for cryoablation is comparatively small compared to brachytherapy, but appears equal in terms of cancer restraint at 5 years in some studies and inferior in others.1-3 Complications such as loss of sexual function and dissoluteness appear to be higher in patients undergoing cryoablation though the new course towards focal therapy may reduce these complications.4-7

There ar few studies directly comparing the 2 technologies, only QOL analysis by Hubosky et al showed that QOL next either therapy showed eq scores on both bowel and bladder function initially, but favourite cryoablation at 18 months.3 Sexual dysfunction was significantly more common with cryoablation both immediately after treatment and in thirster term watch up.

Eastwood directs Jolie in 1920s lost child drama

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Clint Eastwood directs Angelina Jolie in a gripping 1920s drama based on the true story of a woman whose search for her missing son forced her to confront the Los Angeles police and a serial child killer.

There was confusion on Tuesday over the name of the movie, one of 22 entries in the main competition at the Cannes film festival this year. It was originally titled "The Changeling" but production notes re-named it "The Exchange".

Based on archives from Los Angeles City Hall that were about to be destroyed until screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski rescued them after a tip off, the story is about working class mother Christine Collins whose nine-year-old son goes missing.

A police force in desperate need of positive publicity says they have found the boy, but when Collins insists the child is not hers she is subjected to a smear campaign and sent to a psychiatric ward for five days.

With the help of a charismatic pastor, played by John Malkovich, Collins goes in search of the truth, exposing corruption and incompetence in the police force along the way.

Separately, a serial child killer is caught, and the two storylines begin to emerge.

"This woman, through her tenacious attitude, brought down the whole police department and the whole political structure -- the mayor was not re-elected," Eastwood said after a press screening, where "The Exchange" was applauded loudly.

"It's a great study on human characteristics, this one mother fighting against the whole city," added the 77-year-old.
