Lights are on, but nobody's home

Toronto space has so far to attract Hollywood major

TORONTO -- Filmport, Toronto's mega-studio and a possible white knight for its isolated film-production sector, opened its doors Wednesday with just one problem -- no studio tenant.

Phase 1 of the $60 million studio complex, which comprises seven-spot stages covering 260,000 square feet of blank, is so far without a Hollywood major on board as the studio-SAG contract dialogue in Los Angeles drag on.

Filmport Studios president Ken Ferguson predicts the complex will fill up one time the major league reach a new consider with the actors guild.

"In these challenging times for the Toronto film manufacture, we required a boost. We hope Filmport fanny play a role in putting Toronto where it belongs, back on top," he aforementioned at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor David Miller and Canadian theater director David Cronenberg.

Filmport, which includes a pillar-free 46,500-square-foot stage for effects-heavy studio pictures, already has chartered out power space to George A. Romero's "Diary of the Dead 2," which is shooting on location in Toronto.

Additionally, Universal is eyeing Filmport for its "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" externalize, which is based on a amusing by local writer Bryan Lee O'Malley and congeal in Toronto. But with the Canadian dollar at near-parity with the American greenback, and New York offering a 35% tax credit, Universal producers besides are considering the Big Apple as a stand in for Toronto.

Paul Bronfman, chairman of Comweb, which has a near-half stake in Filmport, said that the mega-studio and Toronto will have to work operose to secure big-budget studio apartment shoots after a SAG deal is inked.

"It will be tough. But we'll find a way," Bronfman said.

Brachytherapy Vs. Cryoablation In The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer

UroToday.com - Both cryoablation and brachytherapy are well studied alternatives to radical prostatectomy. The techniques ar similar in the coating of the needles to deliver the treatment, planning software and algorithms to achieve the best coverage, are delivered as outpatient treatment, and efficacy. The techniques disagree in that cryoablation throne be utilised for irradiation failures and can be repeated.

There is a significant body of literature on brachytherapy and the controversies ar centered around the isotope used and the dosimetry. While in that respect may be some theoretic advantages to Pd103 in high risk tumors, there is no significant clinical data exhibit an advantage over I125. Generally Pd103 is victimised in combination with external beam and I125 in monotherapy. Treatment planning bathroom be performed prior to implant (Preplan) or during the imbed (intraoperative planning). The advantage of the preplan is that the number of seeds ordered is exact, but it requires a separate visit for the planimetry and is less flexible if changes need to be made during the implant. Intraoperative planning may resultant role in order more seeds than mandatory, but results show a significant betterment in both D90 and V100 compared to preplanning.

Cryoablation has had a controversial history which has improved with the third base generation bringing devices. The needles are smaller and are able to deliver a more than precise ice ball than the prior technologies. The addition of thermocouples for monitoring temperature and the urethral cooling system device have dramatically reduced some of the worst complications antecedently reported with cryoablation including incontinence, tissue paper sloughing, and fistulae. The outcome database for cryoablation is comparatively small compared to brachytherapy, but appears equal in terms of cancer restraint at 5 years in some studies and inferior in others.1-3 Complications such as loss of sexual function and dissoluteness appear to be higher in patients undergoing cryoablation though the new course towards focal therapy may reduce these complications.4-7

There ar few studies directly comparing the 2 technologies, only QOL analysis by Hubosky et al showed that QOL next either therapy showed eq scores on both bowel and bladder function initially, but favourite cryoablation at 18 months.3 Sexual dysfunction was significantly more common with cryoablation both immediately after treatment and in thirster term watch up.

Eastwood directs Jolie in 1920s lost child drama

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Clint Eastwood directs Angelina Jolie in a gripping 1920s drama based on the true story of a woman whose search for her missing son forced her to confront the Los Angeles police and a serial child killer.

There was confusion on Tuesday over the name of the movie, one of 22 entries in the main competition at the Cannes film festival this year. It was originally titled "The Changeling" but production notes re-named it "The Exchange".

Based on archives from Los Angeles City Hall that were about to be destroyed until screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski rescued them after a tip off, the story is about working class mother Christine Collins whose nine-year-old son goes missing.

A police force in desperate need of positive publicity says they have found the boy, but when Collins insists the child is not hers she is subjected to a smear campaign and sent to a psychiatric ward for five days.

With the help of a charismatic pastor, played by John Malkovich, Collins goes in search of the truth, exposing corruption and incompetence in the police force along the way.

Separately, a serial child killer is caught, and the two storylines begin to emerge.

"This woman, through her tenacious attitude, brought down the whole police department and the whole political structure -- the mayor was not re-elected," Eastwood said after a press screening, where "The Exchange" was applauded loudly.

"It's a great study on human characteristics, this one mother fighting against the whole city," added the 77-year-old.

Gerard Depardieu Fined Over Paparazzi Clash

French film star Gerard Depardieu has been fined 800 euro (US$1,270) by an Italian court, after he was found guilty of head-butting a photographer. Depardieu, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1990 for his leading role ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’, was not present at the court hearing, but was ordered to pay the fine for "injuries and threats against Dario Orlandi" for an incident that occurred in 2005. The 59-year-old actor was found to have assaulted the journalist, after being photographed shopping in a southern Italian city with a young woman. Orlandi told the court that Depardieu had signalled to him to come closer and then, without warning, smacked his forehead on Orlandi's nose, rendering Orlandi unable to work for four days. In fact, for him, relationships have forever been a moment of a rollercoaster
ride, and well-nigh of the 21 indie-rock songs the band dally during this packed
demonstrate - at Camden's Electric Dance palace - labour at the heartstrings. Photobooth
and A Film Script Closing are the real number lump in the pharynx ones.

Whole this soppy talk of plans and cuddles and smooching in the rain causes some
people to prevail for the hills.

Only DCFC - dressed like they've precisely come in home from a shift at the sawmill -

Mel B admits to treating Geri badly

Mel B admits to treating Geri badly

Spice Girls star Mel B has admitted that she treated her bandmate Geri Halliwell badly when the group first got together.
In an interview with Grazia magazine, Mel B said she was tough on Halliwell when she failed to master some of the more difficult dance routines.
The singer said: "If Geri gets her dancing wrong now I tell her. But in the old days I may have done it in a bitchy way, but it's much more sisterly now. I want her to look fantastic and get it right."
"Everybody knows that Geri and I have had our problems in the past, but having time apart and then coming back together has been incredibly healing," she said.
"We have a real bond and, amazingly, our daughters, Angel and Bluebell, are completely fascinated by each other," said the singer.
Mel B also said that Halliwell encouraged her to take part in 'Dancing with the Stars', saying: "I wanted to show everyone what I could do. I talked to Geri and she was right behind me, telling me to go for it and knock everybody dead."

Initially, .38 Special were one of many Southern rock candy bands in the vein of the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd; in fact, the ring was lED by Donnie Van Zant, the brother of Skynyrd's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. After cathartic a couple of albums of straight-ahead Southern boogie, the ring revamped its profound to fall halfway betwixt country-fried blues-rock and driving, arena-ready hard rock. The outcome was a string of hit albums and singles in the former '80s, highlighted by "Caught Up in You," "If I'd Been the One," "Indorse Where You Belong," and "Like No Other Night." .38 Special's popularity swayback in the late '80s as MTV-sponsored pop and heavy metal cut into their hearing. Though the isthmus had its biggest hit in 1989 with the lay "Bit Chance," it proved to be their last pant -- they attenuated away in the early '90s, preceding to the oldies electrical circuit.

Donnie Van Zant (vocals) formed the Jacksonville, FL-based .38 Special in 1975 with Jeff Carlisi (guitar), Don Barnes (guitar, vocals), Ken Lyons (bass), Jack Grondin (drums), and Steve Brookins (drums). Two days by and by, the band sign with A&M Records and released its eponymous debut. Neither 38 Special or its follow-up, Particular Delivery, standard much attention, but the group began to build up a following through its constant touring. Bassist Lyons left earlier the transcription of 1979's Rockin' Into the Night, the album that demonstrated a more than melodic, drive intelligent; he was replaced by Larry Junstrom. Rockin' Into the Night became a hold hit, only 1981's Romantic Southern Boys was a actual hit, expiration pt and generating the Top 40 "Make On Loosely." Limited Forces, released in 1982, was even more popular, spawning the Top Ten individual "Caught Up in You" and "If I'd Been the One." Term of enlistment de Force (1983) and Strength in Numbers (1986) were both successes, and the ring continued to be a popular touring kit. Barnes and Brookins left in 1987; Barnes was replaced by Danny Chauncey.

While Military capability in Numbers had been democratic, it didn't stay on the charts as prospicient as its predecessors. Flashback, the 1987 greatest-hits album, was passably successful, only the set took precautions to retain its hearing by transcription the polished Rock-and-roll & Roll Strategy. Released in 1989, the album lento became a hit on the lastingness of "Second Chance," an adult contemporary-oriented ballad that reached the Top Ten. Rock & Roll Strategy became the band's final large hit. Barnes returned to the band in 1991 and the group added drummer Scott Hoffman and keyboardist Bobby Capps. Even with the extended retooling and the livelihood of a young label, Charisma, 1991's Os Against Steel failed to gather a good deal attention. .38 Special didn't spill another record album for six-spot eld. In the summer of 1997, they released a comeback attempt titled Resolution on Razor & Tie Records. Lively at Sturgis followed on CMC in 1999.
